His Excellency, the Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Saudi Geological Survey, Mr. Bandar bin Ibrahim Al-Khorayef, visited the headquarters of the Saudi Geological Survey in Jeddah to see the progress of the works on the eight SGS initiatives and to witness a presentation about the stages on the transformation process in the SGS.

The CEO of the SGS, Eng. Abdullah bin Muftir Al-Shamrani, confirmed that the SGS  possesses the scientific expertise and technical capabilities that can carry out procedures, studies, and research on advanced technical geological surveys, which can produce high accuracy geological databases that can strategically support local and international investments in the field of mining.

Eng. Al-Shamrani also announced that the SGS has entered into four contracts with reputable international experts and consultants, who will work with the SGS in implementing the projects on the General Program for the Geological Survey Initiative. This is one of the most important, comprehensive, and strategic initiatives for mining that can maximize the value-added innovations through exploration and exploitation of mineral resources in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia by attracting mining investments. He further mentioned that this important stage aims to survey about 600,000 square kilometers of the mineral-rich Arabian Shield that is located in the western part of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Eng. Al-Shamrani concluded in his speech that the main pillars on which the mining sector depends are the delivery of geological survey and data, the acceleration of the mining exploration processes, the stimulation of the value-chain development, the engagement of the mineral industries, and the drawing of investments. These are what the SGS is currently working on to achieve the aspirations of the Government.
