Drilling is one of the most important stages of mineral exploration, which aims to directly ascertain the presence of the ore deposit and determine its location, type, and grade. The Department provides drilling and sampling services from the ground for the purposes of exploration, study, and research for the internal projects of the Saudi Geological Survey, in addition to the government and private sector. Drilling works are carried out in accordance with international safety standards under the supervision of highly skilled technicians. The drilling teams perform their duties using a selection of the most suitable types of drilling machines and equipment used to reach the appropriate depths of up to 1,000 meters.
Services Provided
Diamond Drilling
This type of drilling recovers a variety of sizes of cylindrical samples by using different pipes (PQ, HQ, NQ, and BQ) that can reach a depth of up to 1,000 meters.

Spiral Drilling
Spiral drill heads and pipes are used for soil testing. The samples are taken from the bottom of the hole to the top. This method is best for loose and soft layers and not used in hard grounds, and is used for geotechnical and environmental sampling and is also applied in mining and construction.

Standard penetration test
This test method is done during spiral drilling and after drilling to a certain depth. The standard penetration test (SPT) is performed for soils.
