In order to satisfy the ever-increasing demand from the local construction companies and stone dressing plants, the Directorate General of Mineral Resources has initiated an extensive exploration program, and has built pilot plants for quarrying, cutting, and polishing of the various stones, and has carried out economic feasibility studies. The DGMR also fully tested all the technical properties of these stones in plants specifically built for that purpose and has made the data available to the private sector, along with vital information regarding the location, physical properties, method of extraction, and application of the various natural stone deposits in Saudi Arabia. The DGMR plans to continue work and development on this important natural resource, and it is hoped that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia shall become one of the main producers and exporters of this product. This will have a direct impact on the economy by increasing revenues, developing the areas in which the stone is located, and creating jobs for the local population.
